Third Generation Business - Since 1910
This third generation piano business all started when my Great-Grandfather, Arthur W. Davidson immigrated to Philadelphia from London in 1889, tuning and repairing pianos on Philadelphia's "Piano Row" on Chestnut Street.
In 1910, he opened his own piano store & repair
shop. This store, known as the "Victor Agency" retailed Miller player-pianos, Victor Victrolas, and used pianos reconditioned by my Grandfather.
My Grandfather, Arthur T. Davidson, moved his part of the business (tuning, repair) to Coatesville, PA in 1930. He worked for Miller Piano Company in Coatesville, and several piano stores in Lancaster, PA, including Reifsnyder's, doing tuning and recovering keys. The name of the business in those days was "The Ivorine Piano Key Co.".
After studying piano technology at Temple University, I entered the trade in 1980, and in 1983 gained employment at Reifsnyder's, Lancaster's Steinway dealer, where I worked in the restoration shop until that business closed in 2014. Reifsnyder's provided amazing opportunities for training and experience.
The family business carries on today as Jeff S. Henry Piano Tuning & Restoration Company.
